New Ford vehicles will have backup radar at 24GHz

According to The Register, top-end Ford vehicles will have a new technology in their 2009 model releases. It’s a blind-spot checking radar that utilizes the 24GHz spectrum. This feature is supposed to be an upgraded option to the “Blind Spot Mirror” which is a standard feature on Lincoln and Mercury vehicles. Ford says that this “innovation” has never been seen before although a Vaxhall model in Europe has something similar to it. Gizmodo has a longer press release WITH a demostration video for this technology too. Additionally, the “Cross Traffic Alert with Blind Spot Monitoring System” looks sideways for you while in reverse to check for oncoming traffic in either direction. Ford says that this feature will be optional for 2009 Lincoln and Mercury vehicles.
