Chrysler to add Wifi/Wireless internet to 2009 vehicles?
I actually had this idea back in 2006 regarding putting wifi access into a vehicle. Whether is a regular 2 or 4 door daily usage car or on a commercial scale such as vans, small trucks, or tractor rigs. My original idea was expensive, it included putting in a wifi router with a PCMCIA laptop cellular card.(at the time, I was only familar with sonicwall with such a device). Anyways, back on subject. Engadget spotted an article over at The Washington Post regarding Chrysler adding in-car web access sometime later this year. The technology will allow users(I hope not drivers, at least not until theyre parked) to browse the internet through the vehicles onboard computer/GPS screen. The article states that it’ll be using cellular networks to communicate with the internet. You will, of course, need to subscribe to a cellular wireless carrier to connect your vehicle to the internet. Just like you would with your laptop(Verizon or Sprint) which is usually around $50/month. Sounds like a cool idea but I think drivers have enough distractions as it is on the road.
